Help with a mystery track from around 1993

Post by cogwurx »

Hello! I am new here, but I grew up listening to B96, in the mornings, in the mid 90's. A core memory of mine is a song that I heard a couple of times around 1993 or so, but I never got the name of it. I know this is rather vague, but this is a musical mystery that I've been trying to solve for over a decade now. These are the details that I can recall:
  • There is a riff, or sample, or melody that was used in the song that sounded like the instrument that was used in first few seconds of Robin S' "Show Me Love". Listen to the first 4 seconds of that song and that guttural sound is what I'm talking about.
  • There was, I think, 2 vocalist: a female main vocalist and a male that sang the chorus.
  • The chorus had a line that was on repeat, I believe went like this: "Movin' it to the rhythm, movin' it to the rhythm, movin' it to the rhythm...to the rhythm of the...beat."
Given the chorus, I search both Google and with Claude, but it is not "Move It to the Rhythm" by Technotronic, neither is it "Move Your Feet To The Rhythm Of The Beat" by Hithouse.

I know that that this is quite a vague question given that it's 30+ year old song I heard in high school on a morning show. Thank you in advance for any help with identifying this song.

Hello. Could you be referring to Bass Bumpers - Move It to Rhythm?

If not, do you have an audio clip of track you're looking for?

That doesn't sound like what I remember. It doesn't have male vocal on the chorus. Nice track, though, I've not heard this one before.

I never actually got a sample of the song, I spent many an hour trying to tape it off the radio, with no manner of luck . So, this maybe one of those "heard a couple times and then lost to time". Thank you for your reply on such a vague memory of mine.

You may be looking for this one as it has the chorus you described earlier (but it doesn't have any female vocals)
